At their regular meeting on February 17, 2009, City Council approved the construction of a wildlife observation deck (deck) at Seabourne Creek Park. The 16’ x 16’ elevated deck, constructed near the lake at Seabourne Creek Park, is complete and now open to the public.
The project was an “Eagle Project” by Eagle Scout candidate Austin Smith of Boy Scout Troop 1146 of Katy. The deck was constructed by Smith and fellow Boy Scout Troop 1146 members with donated supplies.

The Share Your Heart Food Drive kicks off Valentines Day February 14th and ends March 13th, 2009. Express your care, concern and love for individuals and families that are in need of support at this time by organizing a food drive in your neighborhood, school, church organization or office to collect food items. It’s not too late to sign up to help. These are difficult times for many Fort Bend residents who are still dealing with set backs as a result of loss of work and damage from Hurricane Ike. Residents are anxious about our struggling economy, failing businesses and loss of jobs. In an effort to meet the basic needs of families in the Fort Bend area Fort Bend County Precinct 2, Commissioner Grady Prestage has partnered with Second Mile Mission Center to host the Share Your Heart Food Drive. The Share Your Heart Food Drive benefiting Second Mile Mission Center will help put food on the table in many homes.

Behind the scenes, there are thousands of individuals who are dedicated to helping their fellow man without thought of financial or political gain or recognition. These selfless volunteers play a significant (and often unheralded) role in making Fort Bend County such an outstanding place to live and raise a family. In an effort to recognize some of the contributions made by these generous and giving individuals, Volunteer Fort Bend is seeking nominations for the most outstanding volunteers in the county, who will be honored by Fort Bend County Judge Robert Hebert at the 2009 County Judge's Volunteer Fort Bend Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 23, at the Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land.
